The reality of course, is that this is rarely the case, as the tide keeps coming in and with it new waves of change. We must stop staff and especially managers getting stuck in this mind set as the backlash is shock, denial, resistance and negativity when further change inevitably hits them.

Workforces need managers who firstly embrace change and secondly are skilled in coaching and developing their teams amidst constant change. See our change management courses

In response to client’s needs and flexible requirements, we’re being creative not only when and where we deliver training but also how we deliver it.

What is interesting is that over the last 5 years, the way we deliver training has seen a significant increase in work-based learning; more links to current work projects and the use of internal mentors, networks and sub-group working.

We may operate in a climate where training budgets are being slashed and managers are spending more time doing and less time training staff; if people challenge the traditional ways of delivering training, they would be surprised at how much they can achieve with minimal investment in terms of time and cost. See our business training courses.

In Britain, another one in eight workers took time off to look after another member of their family.

The study also showed that half of Britons would not take ’sickies’ if they were offered more flexible working hours or the right to ’social days’.

The CBI quotes that workers are absent for more than 170 million days costing the economy £2.5 billion a year.

Quoted in the London’s Metro, researcher Peter Abelskamp said: ‘Employers would be well advised to tackle the issues of sickness and workplace absence head on, as these seriously impact efficiency and hit their balance sheets.’

We work with managers to help them tackle sickness absence confidently and effectively. More information here.

31% were interested in ‘how to manage people’. 30% were interested in ‘how to get a pay rise’ and 19% in ‘how to get a promotion’.

As we are in the alleged recovery, you would be forgiven for assuming that ‘how to get a pay rise’ would be the hot potato yet it is very telling that work-life balance is by far the most read subject by managers.

Alarmingly, the same survey identified that a massive 85% of employees turned to books, the internet, colleagues or friends rather than their line manager when they need guidance at work!

These statistics imply that UK Managers are unapproachable and autocratic. In our experience, whilst management practises have come on significantly in the UK, it is the way in which managers relate to and interact with staff that makes all the difference. In essence, this means getting the right balance between people and task.

In many ways Powerpoint has a lot to answer for. Sure it has provided us with a quick and easy means of putting information on a screen.

But in a sense, the speed and ease of use means that often we do not think carefully enough about the content before we unleash it on our audience. It may look good, but the content and your own performance as a presenter may not cut the mustard.

Presentation skills are increasingly vital in business as a means of getting important people on your side, changing impressions of a subject or simply ‘getting the deal’. Which is why we offer a intensive one day presentation skills training course which helps participants to plan, prepare and deliver presentations with impact and confidence.

You will learn how to hold interest and speak with clarity and purpose. Participants will also gain hands on practical experience in presenting to help grow confidence levels and sharpen presenting skills. And we’ll help you look at the structure of your work to make sure a reasoned argument is presented. Take a look.

It seemed initially such a simple problem to solve and yet the more you tried the worse it seemed to get. Frustration and disillusionment soon sank in, not helped by some callow youth strolling over to the wretched thing and solving it in minutes with a flick of the wrist and a flourish.

And so it is sometimes in business. Almost every day, we are faced with problems to solve some of which require fast and potentially critical decisions that can seem daunting, even insurmountable. And yet some managers seem posess problem solving skills to be able to analyse problems, process the information and have confidence in their solution, whilst others prevaricate.

For the latter we offer an innovative problem solving course which helps participants to explore and apply viable problem solving tools. Participants will learn how they can look at problems in a way that generates qualitative solutions more efficiently and effectively.

Offering practical advice and analysis into the root cause of problems and how to approach them has been found highly beneficial by those who have taken part, giving them the tools to react more positively in the future.
Duncan Bannatyne, he of Dragon’s Den, has found a novel way of encouraging his staff to gain additional skills in his health clubs. He calls it the Cosgrove Scale, (we don’t know why either!) and its remarkably simple.

When you start in the organisation you receive a starting pay level - then every time you attend business training, which you complete successfully, you get a pay rise to reflect your increased abilities.

He has seen a sea change in his staff’s attitude to gaining new skills which have undoubtedly benefited his business. Whilst it is not necessarily a scheme that would find favour in every boardroom, it is a refreshing way of developing your most important asset.

And that means getting the best out of a whole range of individuals and moulding them into a successful unit.

Great teams don’t evolve over night and we can’t all be Alex Ferguson, so it is important that we learn what makes a great team and what actions need to be put in place to create one over time.

Our `Evolving High Performance Teams` one day course provides the spring board and is designed to give team leaders and managers a combination of practical management techniques, tools and approaches to evolve and lead a team to it’s optimum performance.

The course offers clear understanding of how teams develop and what they may need to do to progress their team plus how to improve operational performance through establishing focus and direction for others and better communication and understanding of objectives.

For further information on this course click here or contact us today.

Known as ‘time to train’ this is new Government legislation that is intended to increase the level of training within the workforce. A third of employers currently do not offer any form of training which leaves around 8 million employees to fend for themselves.

Opinions are naturally divided on the benefits with Unions welcoming these extra rights for their members. The Institute of Directors however are less convinced about the wisdom of the scheme. Whilst acknowledging the need for an increase in skills, they are concerned about the additional administrative burden on employers.

Either way, we are naturally pleased to see training being pushed up the business agenda.

For further information on the legislation go to DirectGov website.

A staggering 50% of UK workers had left previous employment because of poor management. So what leads to this frightening statistic? Apparently the survey concludes that:

68% of managers had simply “just fallen into the role”

40% of managers didn’t want “the responsibility of being a manager”

80% of managers have no formal qualifications in management.

Food for thought indeed and a real justification of the work that we are doing with the CMI to address the issue. Adalta work with the CMI to offer a broad spectrum of leadership and management training courses enabling candidates to achieve professional qualifications leading towards Chartered Manager status.

Whlst becoming ‘chartered’ is seen as almost de rigeur for accountants, surveyors and the like, there are only 900 chartered managers in the whole of the UK. Gaining this highly prestigious status can be added to level 5 or level 7 qualifications and will be highly regarded on your CV.

Increasingly employers are recognising that good management not only helps to deliver real benefit and growth for a company but also can ensure that key workers are contented in their work, proving less likely to leave with all the disruption that this can cause.

***SPECIAL OFFER *** We are currently able to offer 20% OFF leadership and management courses. So for for further details on the range of qualifying CMI courses available please click here
