Expectations for 2013

With the economy as it has been over recent times, the role of the manager has never been more challenging. It is always good to come across some research suggesting that things are starting to turn around for the better.

Leadership and management trainingThe latest in the CMI’s Future Forecast series, expectations for 2013, shows that positivity among managers regarding their organisation’s prospects has tipped over the 50% mark. While 2012 has been a more difficult year for businesses than many envisaged, with uncertainty likely to continue into 2013.

Are you in synch with your organisation’s values?

Leadership programmesIn our experience, it is rare to come across organisations that don’t have values. Yes, sometimes, they are a plaque on the wall but often, the majority know they exist and generally what the values are. Naturally, a lot of time is spent crafting organisational values but often little time is spent helping people to clarify and align to these.

In consideration that values underpin the organisational culture and identity, more time needs to be spent aligning business activity to values in practice.

Nearly half of all UK line managers ‘are ineffective’…
Yet new research reveals how management and leadership skills can drive up UK performance.

43% of managers consider their line managers to be ineffective, according to the largest ever in-depth study into the business benefits of management and leadership development, released recently by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Penna.
